18th Cent Mahogany 8 Day Scottish Longcase Clock

Description

This is a handsome 18th Cent longcase clock by William Brownlie of Hamilton, Scotland. He is listed as working there from 1784 to 1800.

The case is of typical Scottish design with a flat top hood and spiral columns.

The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a very smart brass and silvered dial. The chapter ring and dial centre are silvered and has some very good engraved decoration. The dial has a subsidiary seconds dial and working date indicator.

The movement looks to have recently been serviced and has the gut lines replaced. It is in good running order and keeping good time. The case has a few nocks but is in overall good condition.

The maximum dimensions are:

56cm (22“) wide (top of hood)

211cm (83“) high

26cm (10“) deep

You are welcome to collect but if you can’t we can arrange delivery within England and Wales for £75 (+2% insurance), for other destinations please email for a quotation.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
