An Antique Galonne Cased Chopard Pocket Watch

An antique galonne cased Chopard pocket watch.

The watch has a good quality stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The watch has a cam regulator so it can be regulated as a standard watch but the micro regulator piece has gone missing over the years. The movement is signed with the LUC initials for Louis-Ulysse Chopard, he a watchmaker from the Swiss village of Sonvilier who in 1860 founded the company that still bears his name. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover upon which are images of medals won in the late 1800s and also details of the movement.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. It has a galonne case which means it is 800 silver (usually of Continential origin) with a rose gold wash around the bezel and the edge of the case back… there is some rubbing to the wash, particularly on the case back where only traces remain. There is engine turned detail to the back of the watch, together with a central cartouche with the initials AB or BA.

The watch glass is in good order.

The signed white enamel dial is in beautiful condition.
