Rare Quarter-striking & Repeating Carriage Clock

Description

A very fine and substantial late 19th century French CARRIAGE CLOCK with some rare features.

The "Cannalee" case is of excellent quality with its large bevelled glass to the top and ribbed handle. The 8-day movement is of particular note. It strikes hours and quarters on TWO gongs, repeating hours & quarters at will and it also has a separate alarm train.

It retains its original lever platform escapement with a VERTICAL escape wheel, which can be viewed through a large aperture in the backplate. Not seen before. It is signed on the platform and on the movement with the initials "PM" flanking an anchor ~ maker unknown. Gorgeous quality and in full working order.
