Early 19th Cent Oak 8 Day Longcase Clock

Description

19th Cent Oak 8 Day Longcase Clock

Here we have a very pretty little longcase clock. It needs a little tidying to make it a very smart clock. It is by an Abingdon (Berkshire) maker but the makers name has faded, possibly John Payne who worked in Abingdon around 1830.

The case and movement are in nice condition and it is in good running order with all functions working (including the date indicator). The main problems are that the dial is a little faded and the hood door hinges need replacing (both dial restoration and the door hinges are available from www.clockspares.co.uk ) When done you would have a super little clock that would retail for £2500-3000.

The clock stands on a plinth base and the trunk has inlaid canted corners. The long door has an arched top and mahogany cross banding. The arched top hood has fluted columns with brass capitals and some attractive fretwork decoration to the top.

The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a white painted dial with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture.

The maximum dimensions are:

49cm(19.5“) wide

210cm(83“) high

24cm(9.5“) deep

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
