Fine Georgian Mahogany 8 Day London Longcase Clock

Description

Here we have a wonderful mahogany longcase clock by the London maker Charles Sampson.

The elegant arch topped case is in beautifully figured mahogany and has all the features you would expect in a fine London Clock. It stands on a double plinth and has a raised and moulded panel to the base. The slim trunk has fluted quarter columns with brass capitals and stop flutes. It has a long moulded door with a break arch top. The hood has slim fluted columns with brass capitals and brass stop flutes and quarter columns at the back. To the sides of the hood are beautiful fretted panels.

The good quality movement has five knopped pillars and a fine quality brass dial. The dial has a roman chapter ring, mask spandrels, a subsidiary seconds dial, working date aperture and the all important strike/silent selector dial to the arch.

The case is in fine quality mahogany and in beautiful condition and is a lovely colour. The movement is in good working order and has recently been serviced and the gut lines replaced. All functions are working as they should and the hour hand has an old repair. The clock is complete with original all brass pendulum, brass cased weights, bell and a winding key.

These good quality London clocks retail for £7000-10,000 so this one is particularly competitively priced.

The maximum dimensions are:

50cm(19.5“) wide, trunk 35cm(13.5”)

216cm(85“) high

24cm(9.5“) deep

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
