An Antique Longines Pocket Watch, 1911

An antique Longines pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Longines and it has the serial number 2,578,233 which dates it back to 1911. The movement has also the initials GF, which is for Grosjean Freres. Grosjean Freres were originally watch makers but went onto become sales agents for Longines. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has details of various trade medals won by Longines.

The watch measures 47.5mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is .800 silver in the galonne style which means there is a rose gold wash around the bezel and also around the edge of the case back. The inside of the hinged case back has the Swiss grouse mark for .800 silver together with the Longines mark. The front of the case is in good condition, there are some small indentations to the back. There are initials to the cartouche on the back of the watch.

The plastic watch lens is in good condition.

The signed white enamel dial has a couple of areas of damage at 3 and 8 and three very faint hairline cracks. The ornate hands are a very handsome feature of this watch, and there are also outer minute markers.
