Antique 8 Day Long Case Clock by Thomas Pepper, London. Circa 1770

18th century
Description

This is a black lacquer decorated long case clock striking the hours on a bell. There is a strike silent lever in the arch. The movement is good quality as would be expected of a London clock of this period. The movement has been fully restored.

The case is beautifully decorated and the lacquerwork has been carefully restored to produce a well-proportioned and elegant clock designed to grace any home of taste. The case measures 86" in (2184mm) in height.

Thomas Pepper was apprenticed in 1757 and became free of the Clockmakers Company in 1764. He worked in Staining Lane until 1794 (Loomes, Brian. Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World).
