An Antique Elgin Gents Cushion Cased Wrist Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

An antique Elgin gents cushion cased wrist watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, grade 298, which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around three to four minutes over 24 hours. The signed movement has the serial number 16609830 which dates it back to 1911.

The watch measures 31mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the lugs. The case is gold plated and was made by the English-based watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The plate on the case was originally guaranteed to wear 20 years and it has stood the test of time well with just a couple of fairly minor indentations to the back, some rubbing to the plate to the front on a couple of the corners, and some surface marking but overall very acceptable for an antique piece. The finish has worn off the winding crown.

The lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial is signed with the Elgin name. The condition looks super to the naked eye. If viewed through a magnifying loupe, there is a very faint hairline crack to the left of the sub seconds dial.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
