George III 8 Day Oak & Mahogany Moon Phase Longcase Clock, Pattison of Halifax

Description

This is a fine and substantial oak and mahogany cased 8 day longcase clock. The dial bears the name John Pattison of Halifax. Pattison is noted as working between 1760 to 1800 and was a one time partner with John Burton also of Halifax around 1783. The good quality clock has a wonderful colour and good patina as well as having a superior quality movement with moon phase dial, centre seconds mechanism and a gong strike on the hour and (rarely for a longcase movement) also on the half hour. The movement also has a deadbeat escapement for accuracy and a maintaining power mechanism to enable maintained accuracy during winding. The case is raised on its original bracket feet, with a long door attractively inlaid with stylised conch design. The hood has good detail with attractive brass paterae and spires and a finely modelled solid brass stags head to the centre.

This clock is an imposing size with lovely proportions measuring a full 8 feet in height, 22" wide by 10" deep.
