World War 1 Marvin Silver Trench Watch

A World War 1 Marvin silver trench watch.

Marvin was a brand name used by the family business M & E Didisheim, established in 1850, and later Albert Didsheim & Frères Didisheim of St Imier.

The Marvin brand was registered in 1893 with the intention of exporting Swiss watches to America, hence the more American sounding name.

This particular watch has a Swiss jewelled hand-winding movement which has been fully tested and is working nicely, keeping good time to within around three to four minutes over 24 hours.

The watch itself measures 31.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London (import mark), 1915 with a sponsor’s (or importer’s) mark for George Stockwell. Fom 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in very nice condition.

The lens is also in good condition.

The watch has a white enamel dial which is in lovely condition.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will come with a new presentation box.
