Description

For sale is this very rare and super fine Silver British Naval Admiralty issued Deck watch no 609696, with pin set movement dating May 1918. Full silver hall marks to the heavy large case, approx. 55mm in diameter excluding the winding stem or crown and signed by W Ehrhardt. Full matching numbers throughout, including dial, case and case inner movement cover and gilt movement. Admiralty issue crows foot arrow to the dial and further engraved on the back plate to the gilt movement. The case is undamaged and all sections a close fit. The dial shows some stressing marks through use. The watch has just under gone a full rebuild including a new main spring, service and balance work, and is now in very fine working order keeping accurate time. A very fine and seldom found Deck watch by a rare English maker from a time when the British Royal Navy was at its peak. I have now obtained the Admiralty Chronometer record for this watch, it was purchased in May 1918 at a cost of £6.15 shillings and was issued to HMS Swordfish, a Submarine, that was subsequently sunk by a mine off the Isle of Wight in 1940. Very rare with the service record, a copy of which will go with this watch.
