Thomas Russell Full Hunter Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

An antique half hunter pocket watch originally assembled and retailed by Thomas Russell of Liverpool.

The watch has a good quality Swiss stem-winding movement, with 17 jewels and also adjusted in three positions, which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed Thos Russell & Son, Liverpool and it is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is plated and was made by the England based watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The watch was obviously much used and much loved as there is unevenness to the front and some little indentations. There is also some rubbing to the plate on the back.

The small plastic lens to the front is in good condition and is surrounded by Roman numerals and minute markers.

The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover which reveals a white enamel dial signed Thos Russell & Son, Liverpool. There are a couple of hairline cracks radiating from number 1. The watch has half hunter hands which are a special design so that the time can be read, and the hour hand identified, when the front cover is closed. The inner plastic lens is in good condition.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
