Impressive Regency Mahogany Longcase Clock

Description

An attractive and very good quality early 19th century inlaid mahogany LONGCASE CLOCK in full working order.

The case is of beautifully figured timber, with "batswing" inlays to the corners of the hood; trunk and plinth; a long trunk door veneered in finest "flame" mahogany flanked by quarter columns and a similarly veneered plinth.

The 8-day movement strikes hours and quarters on 2 bells, whilst the good convex enamel dial is signed Purvis LONDON. The cast brass bezel is particularly fine as are the original gilded hands. 7ft 3ins (219cms) tall.

*Alexander Purvis is recorded working in North Audley Street, London from 1810 until 1845.
