Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The case is of beautifully figured timber, with "batswing" inlays to the corners of the hood; trunk and plinth; a long trunk door veneered in finest "flame" mahogany flanked by quarter columns and a similarly veneered plinth.
The cast brass bezel is particularly fine as are the original gilded hands. 7ft 3ins (219cms) tall.
Alexander Purvis is recorded working in North Audley Street, London from 1810 until 1845.
