A Gents 9 Carat Gold Trench Watch, 1924

A gents 9 carat gold trench watch.

The watch has a Swiss Fontainmelon hand-winding movement which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around five minutes or so over 24 hours.

The watch measures 31mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and it is hallmarked inside the hinged case back for Glasgow (import mark), 1924, with an importer’s mark for Arthur George Rendell. In 1907, an act came into force which meant that all imported watches had to be assayed in a UK assay office and marked with British import hallmarks. For this, a sponsor's mark was required so that Pringles could send imported watches for assay. Arthur Rendell was an employee of Robert Pringle & Sons, and probably in charge of the department which handled imported watches, and he registered his initials as the mark. This particular case is in good condition with just general light surface marks from use.

The lens has light marks but is very acceptable.

The white enamel dial has charming blued steel hands, a red number 12 and an outer minute ring. There is a chip to the edge of the dial but it is hidden by the bezel.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
