Antique Silver Sewill Pocket Watch and Chain

Antique silver pocket watch originally retailed by Sewill of Liverpool.

The watch has a good quality patterned Swiss stem-winding movement, with 15 jewels, four adjustments, which is working well and keeping good time. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two hinged case backs for London (import mark), 1918 with an importer’s mark for George Stockwell … from 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in lovely condition with just light surface marks.

The glass is in very nice condition.

The white enamel dial is signed with the name Sewill, Liverpool, Maker to the Royal Navy, Swiss Made. The dial is in super condition and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial, and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a silver chain, 29cm long including the T-bar and clasp. The chain is late Victorian so earlier in date than the watch.
