Gents 1930s Art Deco Alpina Bi-metal Wrist Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

Gents 1930s Art Deco Alpina bi-metal wrist watch.

The watch has an Alpina 843 hand-winding movement which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around one minute or so over 24 hours.

The watch measures 23mm wide excluding the winding crown and 32mm high excluding the lugs. The case is a mixture of 9 carat rose gold and Staybrite steel. By the second half of the 1920s, there were a number of patented stainless steel alloys being produced on a commercial scale, the most important of which for the watch making industry was Staybrite. This particular blend was ideal for the manufacture of watch cases due to the fact that it could relatively easily be worked cold. Watch cases were milled and stamped without heat during production, and Staybrite quickly proved itself as the perfect stainless steel for this application. The back of the watch has a personalised engraving from 1934. The case has light surface marks but overall is in good condition for such an early piece.

The watch has a convex lens which is also in good condition.

The dial has some Art Deco influence and it is in its original finish … there is some surface marking but it is still very easy to read the time.

The watch has a later green leather strap but this can be changed if you would prefer a brown or black strap.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
