A Good-sized Gents 1950s Lanco-matic Watch

1940 - 1960
Description

A good-sized gents 1950s Lanco-Matic bumper automatic wrist watch.

The watch has an early form of automatic movement, a bumper automatic, and it is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two to three minutes or so over 24 hours. Unlike a modern automatic movement where the rotor rotates 360 degrees, a bumper rotates a fraction of this, usually 120 degrees, and it literally ‘bumps’ on two springs. You can feel the sensation of the bumping when the watch is worn which is quite nice.

The watch is a good size at 36mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the stylishly shaped lugs. The case is rose gold plated and there is some wear to the top right hand lug and also to the plate on the back of the watch. Other than that, just a little rubbing or marking in places but overall it has very good vintage charm.

The snap-on case back is stainless steel … it has a scratches and marks.

The lens is in very good condition.

The dial has the raised Lanco-Matic name, and is also signed 17 Jewels, Incabloc although there is some wear to the wording, and the outer minute track has virtually worn away. Original dauphine shaped hands and centre seconds.

A new brown leather strap has been fitted.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
