A Gents 1920s Silver Cushion Cased Wrist Watch

A 1920s silver cushion cased wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around three minutes over 24 hours.

The watch itself measures 31mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London (import mark), 1924 with an importer’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. This particular case has the odd mark but overall the condition is very acceptable for a 1920s piece. The finish has worn through on the winding crown.

The lens is in good condition.

The dial is enamel and it has a couple of hairline cracks but they are difficult to see with the naked eye. The hour and minute hands are handsome … they probably would have had infill originally.

A later black leather strap has been fitted.
