An Antique English Silver Pocket Watch, Leicester

An antique English silver pocket watch.

The watch has an English ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes or so over 24 hours. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the back covers for Birmingham 1906, with a maker’s mark for William Ehrhardt, watchmakers from Birmingham and also Hatton Garden, London. The front of the case is in good condition. The hinged back originally had engine turned detail but some of this has worn off over the years, and there is some slight unevenness.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The enamel dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, E C Kemp & Co, Leicester (their rather grand shop is shown in the background on the photos). There are three hairline cracks with only one being reasonably visible between 11 and 12. Blued steel hands, subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a white metal chain, 24cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
