An Antique Ww1 Silver Trench Watch

An antique WW1 silver trench watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours.

The watch measures 31.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London, 1914 together with an importer’s mark for George Stockwell - from 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in good condition with just the odd mark and evidence of an earlier thread through style strap.

The watch has a white enamel dial with black numerals and a red number 12. There are three faint hairline cracks to the dial. The hands would originally have had infill but, as often happens, this has fallen out over the years.

A later black leather strap has been fitted.
