Antique 8 Day Long Case Clock by Mark Draper of Witham Circa 1750

Description

This is a dark-blue lacquer clock which is beautifully decorated by superb chinoiserie. The clock strikes the hours on a bell and is of 8 day duration.

The brass dial is in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs.

Draper worked in Essex from 1729 until 1781 and we believe this clock to have been made around the middle of the century.

The clock is well proportioned and measures 88" (2235mm) in maximum height.

Hedley Wilson has dated this piece to the 1750s.
