1930s 9 Carat Gold Buren Eldis Wrist Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

A 1930s 9 carat gold Buren Eldis wrist watch originally retailed by Pleasance & Harper of Shrewsbury.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, (the first) Buren calibre 14, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed Buren Eldis.

The watch measures 21.5mm wide excluding the winding crown and 32mm high excluding the lugs. It is a smaller watch which would suit either a man with a slimmer wrist, or it could be worn by a lady. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for Birmingham 1937 with a case maker’s mark for the British watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The back of the watch has a personal engraving, J Dyke, 1939. The case is in lovely condition.

The watch glass is probably the original; there are some marks but it is absolutely fine to use.

The dial is signed Pleasance & Harper, Shrewsbury, Swiss Made. It is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
