French Ormolu and Gilt Mantel Clock

19th century
Description

A very good quality French ormolu and gilt bronze decorative Mantel Clock with doves of peace and trailing flowers. The Clock has sevre style painted porcelain panels and a white enamel dial with an eight day French movement and outside count wheel which strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.

The Clock has the makers name on the dial and is also stamped on the movement:-

Rue Charlots

Charpentier was a well known foundry that created beautiful gilt bronze clocks, garnitures, vases and torcheres. In 1860 the company was known as Charpentier & Cie and they were located at 8 Rue Charlot, Paris. Then from 1870 - 1890 they were known as Lemerle - Charpentier & Cie. The foundry showed its work at the Paris exhibition in 1878 where it won a gold medal

The Clock movement has been cleaned and serviced

Height - 11 inches

Width - 8 ½ inches

Depth - 4 ½ inches
