Vintage Junghans Astra Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

A 1920s Junghans Astra pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, signed Astral, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved with the name Adolf Kirstein, Gluckstadt, 17.11.28.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The watch has a galonne case which is 800 silver with rose gold wash highlights. There is some rubbing to the rose gold wash, and the odd mark. The remainder of the case is in reasonable condition for its age; there is an indentation to the back, together with some marks where the back has been opened at some stage. The case back hinges open to reveal the 800 silver mark (which is a lower purity than the standard 925 sterling silver), together with the Junghans star logo.

The plastic lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial is signed Astra. Unfortunately it has sustained some damage in between numbers 1 and 2 and there is a hairline crack running between the centre and number 11. Charming stylised numbers, an outer minute track and very ornate hands (one is a different shade of gold so is probably a later replacement). The hands are initially set by way of the pin-set mechanism.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
