Impressive Rouge Marble Clock by Achille Brocot

Description

A splendid quality mid-19th century FRENCH MANTLE CLOCK in perfect working order.

The case is of stunning well-variegated and figured "rouge" marble embellished with finely cast ormolu mounts, whilst the very fine eight-day movement strikes hours and half-hours on a bell. It retains its original (numbered) pendulum and is signed on the engraved and silvered dial: BROCOT PARIS. This movement also features a most unusual and early form of pendulum adjustment. 16ins high 5.5ins deep (40.5 x 14cms)

* Achille Brocot was an eminent maker who devised a form of anchor escapement and pendulum adjustment that is now know by his name. See Baillie page 41...
