1912 Art Nouveau Elgin Full Hunter Pocket Watch

A charming Art Nouveau gold filled full hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a jewelled stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two to three minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed Elgin Natl Watch Co, USA, and it has the serial number 16780430 which dates it back to 1912. The movement is protected by an inner dust cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case has the mark for the American watch case maker James Boss who patented the "gold filled" watch case in 1859. It also has the mark of the Keystone Watch Case Company who purchased the patent and trademark rights for the J Boss case from the previous owners and used it in conjunction with their own trademark. The case is beautifully detailed on both the front and back with exquisite Art Nouveau styling, and the front has a vacant cartouche. Overall, the case is in lovely condition with just the one indentation to the back although with such an intricate design, the indentation is not immediately noticeable.

The lens is very thin glass and it is in good condition.

The enamel dial is signed Elgin and it is in good order with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
