Silver 1939 Pocket Watch, Bbc Presentation

1920 - 1940
Description

A 1930s silver presentation pocket watch.

The watch has a jewelled stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is protected by an inner dust cover which has a presentation engraving, 'Presented to W Foster by his workmates on his retirement from the BBC, August 1939'.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1936, with a maker's mark for the prolific English watch case maker A L Dennison. The case has engine turned detail to the case back with a central vacant cartouche. The case is in very nice condition.

The watch lens has a ½cm scratch but otherwise looks good.

The dial is enamel and is in very good condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
