Antique William Hardy, Shustoke Fusee Pocket Watch

An antique silver fusee pocket watch by William Hardy of Shustoke in Warwickshire.

The watch has a fusee (chain driven) movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around five minutes over 24 hours. The movement is dated AD 1889, and it is protected by a fitted inner cover. A winding key will be included with the watch.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Chester 1888 with a maker's mark for the Coventry based watch case maker Alfred Gurney. It has attractive detail to the back of the watch, with a vacant cartouche to the centre. There are some general marks to the case but overall the condition is good for a piece of its age.

The watch glass has minor marks but barely noticeable to the naked eye.

The enamel dial is signed William Hardy, Shustoke; it is in very nice condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
