Gents 9ct Gold Thomas Russell Watch, 1917

1900 - 1920
Description

An antique Thomas Russell 9 carat gold watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, with 15 jewels, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around one minute or so over 24 hours; the movement is signed Thos Russell & Son, Liverpool.

The watch measures 31mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for Birmingham, 1917 with a maker's mark for the prolific English watch case maker A L Dennison. The back of the watch has beautifully elaborate engraved initials. The winding crown is a later replacement.

The lens is in good condition, possibly a later lens.

The black enamel dial is in lovely condition. It is signed Thos Russell & Son, Liverpool. The minute hand is a later replacement although the style is correct for the age of the watch.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
