Gents 1950s Allaine Automatic Watch

A gents 1950s Allaine wrist watch.

The watch has an automatic Fontomatic Patent movement (the rotor with peripheral gear out runs on a circular rail at the movement edge - as with many vintage automatic watches, you can hear the rotor moving around), FHF 65. FHF is Fabrique d'Horlogerie de Fontainemelon (FHF), a big Swiss ébauche manufacturers, set up in 1793 to supply the Swiss watch industry with ébauches (bare movements) for finishing and casing. This particular watch is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The automatic mechanism within the movement is a later replacement but of the correct calibre so an honest repair which appears to have been carried out a long time ago.

The watch measures 33mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold plated and there are some minor marks but overall the condition is pleasing for a 1950s piece. The case back is stainless steel; it has a couple of scratches. The back states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, I would not rely on this still being the case.

The lens is in lovely condition.

The dial is signed Allaine, 30 Jewels, Automatic, Incabloc, Swiss Made. Original dauphine shaped hands, centre seconds hand and outer minute markers.

A new brown leather strap has been fitted.
