Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The case, of conventional form, is of small size, and features a brass-edged pad top with carrying handle; brass columns edging the front door; cast 'ogee' feet; a good gilded 'slip' frame around the dial and 'fish scale' frets to the side panels.
The original painted dial (completely untouched) features "Strike/Silent" control in the arch; and is signed (Perigal, Coventry Street, London). Original delicate blued steel hands.
Perfect working order and guaranteed for at least two years. Just 13.5ins high (excluding the handle) and 9.5ins wide. (34 x 24cms).
