18th Cent Oak 8 Day Longcase Clock

Description

An interesting 18th Cent Longcase clock with the unusual feature of having the first owners name on the dial as well as the maker. This may well have been a marriage clock.

The makers name on the dial is William Porthouse of Penrith. The owners names are Thomas & Mary Wilson with the date 1751.

The clock has a possibly associated 8 day movement that strikes the hours on a bell. It has a very attractive brass dial with a silvered chapter ring and date indicator (not working).Other than the date it is in good working order and keeping good time.

The solid oak case is in good unrestored condition, has retained its original finish and is a lovely colour.

The maximum dimensions are:

201cm (79") high

53cm (21") wide

27cm (10.5) deep

Free local delivery (75mls), national and international delivery arranged.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
