Stauffer Peerless Iwc Pocket Watch and Chain

19th century
Description

An antique Stauffer Peerless (IWC) pocket watch with a semi-hermetic case.

The stem-winding movement is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to around one minute over a 24 hour period. The movement is stamped S&Co, Peerless and it has the serial number 161234 which dates it back to between 1895-1900.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is .935 silver and it has Continental hallmarks inside the case back, together with the case number 185912 which dates it back to the late 1890s so it ties in nicely with the date of the movement. The case has elaborate initials to the back.

The watch glass has a couple of chips to the outer edge.

The white dial has black Arabic numbers, blued steel hands and a subsidiary seconds dial. The hands are set by way of the pin set button to the side of the winding crown. The dial is in very nice condition.

The watch comes with a sterling silver pocket watch chain, 33cm long. Each of the links on the chain has the silver lion passant mark. The T-bar is hallmarked for 1906.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
