Vintage Ww1 Gents 1916 Silver Borgel Cased Trench Watch

A WW1 gents 1916 silver Borgel cased trench watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The high grade jewelled movement is unsigned.

The watch measures 34.3 mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case has London import marks for 1916 with the case makers mark for Francois Borgel (Francois Borgel of Geneva registered his "marque de fabrique" or makers mark, in Geneva in March 1887. The Borgel case was an early attempt to make wrist watches resistant to dust and moisture. It is a one piece case, where the movement and bezel are mounted on a threaded ring which screws into the case from the front.) The case is in good condition with just light surface marks, mainly to the case back.

The watch lens is plastic and has faint surface marks although hardly noticeable.

The enamel dial is in good condition with just a little rubbing to the painted finish on some of the numbers. The dial has a fabulous vintage look with plenty of character.

The hands have lost some of the infill although they have a great vintage look.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
