Antique Sterling Silver Octava 8-Day Travel Clock

1900 - 1920
Description

An antique (pre-WW1) sterling silver travel clock from the Octava Watch Company.

The clock has a stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely. Originally the clock went for eight days but now it goes for about six days, time keeping good to within around ten minutes over the six days. The movement is signed Octava Watch Co, Switzerland, 15 Jewels, 2 Adjustments, USAP 816321 which relates to the American patent filed in 1905 by Hartmann Franktisek (the inventor) and Josef Oliak, on behalf of Octava Watch Company.

The clock hinges into its silver case; the case is stamped Sterling, R&B Co, 5282. When closed, the case measures approximately 3" x 3¼". The case is showing some signs of age with some areas of unevenness and some outward 'dings'. The lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed 8 Days, Swiss. There is a mark by number 10 some damage and a subsequent repair next to the number 7.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
