A Fine French Ormolu Mantel Clock

Description

J.C.CAILLY: a particularly fine quality mid-19th century FRENCH ORMOLU MANTEL CLOCK in perfect working order.

The case is spectacular; crisp ormolu (gilded bronze) with all of its original mercury gilding intact, featuring scrolls; leaves and a central shell motif. Unusually, it is complete with its original and separate ormolu base (see picture below).

The 8-day movement strikes hours and half-hours on a bell via the outside countwheel, with silk suspension. Signed both on the silvered dial and engraved on the backplate. 12ins high; 7.5ins wide and 5ins deep. (30 x 19 x 12.5 cms.
