Early 19th Century French Mantle Clock

Description

An excellent quality and compact early 19th century FRENCH ORMOLU and MARBLE MANTLE CLOCK in full working order.

Surmounted by a splendid ormolu (gilt bronze) lion, the case is of white marble with ormolu mounts on a black marble background, and an ormolu frieze above ornate cast feet.

The 8-day movement has silk suspension and outside countwheel, striking hours and half-hours on a bell, and retains its original gilded hands and convex enamel dial signed: Gallot a Paris, who is recorded as working there at the end of the 18th century.
