Burr Walnut Long-case Clock

18th century
Description

An 8 day longcase clock striking on a bell on the hours. It has just been fully serviced by our BHI registered staff.

A rare 11" square brass dial with engraved black Roman numerals and inter-spaced Fluer-de-lis. Gilded spandrels to the corners and an engraved matted centre with date dial and cartouche engraved "JOHN BOOT JUNIOR - SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD". It has both an inner and outer minute ring with Arabic 5min. markers to the outside.

The walnut case, although authentic in every detail, is possibly of a later date. It has a blind fretwork panel below the flat top hood with superb spiral columns to the sides and quarter matching columns to the rear. Site glasses to the sides of the hood allow the movement to be seen in motion. A full length door leads down to a square base over a double plinth. Superbly polished with a stunning patina.

John Boot Junior is recorded as working in Sutton-in-Ashfield in the first half of the 18thC.

Dimensions:

Height 79" (201cm)

Width (max) 18" ( 46cm)

Depth 9" (23cm)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
