18th Century English Marquetry Longcase Clock

Description

An impressive and fine quality early 18th century MARQUETRY LONGCASE CLOCK of compact size, by William Jobson of LONDON.* The case is particularly fine with its 'caddy' top incorporating barleytwist columns which flank the hood door; long trunk door and superb marquetry of flowers, leaves and birds to the hood; trunk and the base. It is supported on pretty compressed bun feet and stands just 7ft tall.

The eight-day movement strikes hours on a bell whilst the good 11-inch dial has a fine engraved and silvered chapter-ring; well cast spandrels; subsidiary seconds; date aperture and good blued steel hands.

Full working order (of course!) and guaranteed for at least two years. 84ins (214cms) high. * William Jobson was apprenticed in 1702; this clock was probably made some 25-30 years later in his working life.
