Double Fusee Dropdial Wall Clock by Rothery of Halifax

19th century
Description

A rare opportunity to acquire a clock that is high in demand and very scarse in supply.

Double fusee dropdial clocks are much sought after but they don't come along very often.

The clock has a beautifull flame mahogany case with a deep rich colour and patination. There is a glazed aperture to the lower half of the case through which the brass pendulum can be seen in operation. This has a carved surround of vines and grapes.

The chisel base of the case has a lockable door giving access to the pendulum and there are inspection doors to both sides of the backbox of the clock.

The 8 day, double fusee movement has just been fully serviced by our BHI registered staff.

It strikes the hours on a bell with a quite delightfull tone.

The white painted dial has black Roman numerals and nicely cut black hands and a brass bezel. It is signed "Rothery, Halifax". He is recorded as working in "the coal market, Halifax" between 1866-71.
