Mid 18th Century Oak Cottage Longcase Clock

Description

A small, well proportioned solid oak longcase clock, dating to the mid 18th Century. It has a flat top hood with reeded side columns, and a long door with a shaped plinth. The brass dial has a silvered chapter ring and corner sprandrels and a date window. The 30 hour movement is of an early posted lantern clock form and strikes the hours on a bell. Made by a Quaker clockmaker, this can be identified by the dial design and lack of a name as the Quaker order denied any form of self-promotion. (England, c. 1750 to c. 1770)

Current Condition

The case retains its good original finish, the dial has been cleaned in recent years, the movement has been serviced and is guaranteed for 12 months.
