Benjamin Louis Eulalie de Bonneville (1796 - 1878)
~ French - Circa 1880 ~
~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~
Porcelain has a Pompadour blue ground; a country scene below the dial and delicately painted floral swags to the dial and the lower panel. Unusually the clock depicts the explorer of the American West, Benjamin de Bonneville, who was made famous in Washington Irving's book 'The Adventures of Captain Bonneville'.

He stands with a rifle and trading goods in front of a frontier cross. The clock stands on its original gesso base covered with red velvet. Porcelain is signed to the reverse, see the picture below.
The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Please note that this type of clock does not have a rear door or a glazed bezel. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is very good, there is some wear to the gilding, we have polished it to a bright finish. The porcelain is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches, just some minor rubbing to the over glaze gilt decoration, particularly on the dial. Gesso base is also in good condition, we have replaced the red velvet and there is some slight splitting to the wood.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
