Cloverleaf Home Interiors has dated this piece to the 1800s.
Here we a beautiful and grand longcase Grandfather clock. The clock is not a marriage meaning the movement, dial, hood and case are original to each other. The clock was made by William Spry of Hay on Wye c1830. The original paintings around the dial depict a families life along with seasons. Top left is the couple as young people gathering fruits. Top right is the couple in summer romance hand in hand. Bottom left is the Mother and child and bottom right are the couple in the winter of there lives. The window behind them has a snowy seen outside.
The top of the dial has beautifully painted and gilded shells. The paintings are exquisitely executed and have a romantic and emotive theme. The movement as you will see has been serviced and cleaned and the clock comes with a years guarantee. The case is made from lovely figured Oak with Mahogany crossbanding and decoration. This typically Regency clock has wonderful reeded columns with brass fittings adorning the main body which are replicated on the hood. there are also reeded features to the top of the hood and a broken swan neck pediment with gilded roundels. The glass is also original. The case has had some minor cosmetic restoration as you would expect around the base. A super longcase in great condition and perfect working order. The best price for this item is always direct from cloverleaf Home Interiors.
