A Georgian silver basting spoon is a large flatware utensil crafted during the 18th or early 19th century, designed specifically for scooping liquids over roasting meats or serving large portions at formal meals.

These spoons were forged from solid sterling silver containing 92.5 percent silver content, shaped by silversmiths using hand-hammering and engraving techniques.

Authentic pieces carry stamped hallmarks applied by the Dublin Assay Office, including the Hibernia mark, the crowned harp, a date letter, and the silversmiths individual maker mark.

The utensil can be displayed flat on a dining sideboard tray, mounted within a glazed shadowbox frame, or grouped inside a glass apothecary vessel alongside historic silver flatware.

Clean gently by hand in warm water with mild detergent, dry immediately with a soft cotton towel, and use a dedicated silver polishing foam sparingly to control tarnish.
