Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This figural table lamp, created in the early twentieth century during the Art Deco period, takes the form of a young standing fisherboy holding a light socket aloft in one hand. Cast from bronze with a dark brown patinated finish, the sculpture rests upon a rocky, naturalistic base and includes a white candle-bulb fitted into the raised arm socket. Alongside the central bronze figure, the composition displays naturalistic facial features, textured hair under a hat, and detailed shorts, with visible wiring extending from the base. The piece measures 57 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, making it suitable for display on a sideboard top or within a gentleman's library setting.

FAQs

Figural bronze lamps from the early 20th century combine fine art sculpture with practical domestic illumination, frequently taking inspiration from classical, genre, or coastal subjects like fishermen and street youth.

These lamps were primarily cast in bronze using the lost-wax process, finished with chemical patination to achieve deep brown or green tones, and fitted with internal electrical conduit.

Authentic castings typically exhibit crisp details around extremities, evidence of hand-tooling or chasing, a founders mark or artist signature near the base, and genuine surface wear consistent with age.

Designers place figural bronze lighting on contemporary sideboards, tailored desks, or modern bookcases to introduce organic texture, dark metallic tones, and historical character into modern room schemes.

Routine care requires soft dusting with a dry microfibre cloth; periodic application of a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax preserves the original patination and protects the metal against atmospheric moisture.
