This heavy antique Edwardian sterling silver combination sovereign coin holder and vesta case dates from 1900 in the Edwardian style. Fashioned from solid sterling silver with a bright polished silver finish, the piece features clean, plain surfaces and structural hardware including dual hinged lids, an integrated push button release, a spring-loaded coin mechanism, and a small circular suspension ring attached to one end. Tiny stamped assay hallmarks are visible inside the open lid. Measuring 6.6 cm in length, 3 cm in width, and 1.3 cm in depth, the item sits comfortably on an office desk as a practical historical desk accessory or as part of a gentleman's library display.

Popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, a combination sovereign and vesta case is a portable sterling silver pocket accessory designed to store friction matches (vestas) in one compartment and gold sovereign coins in a spring-loaded holder in the other.

These pieces were primarily constructed from sterling silver, incorporating internal steel coil springs, hinged covers, suspension rings for attachment to watch chains, and serrated strike plates along the bottom edge.

Authentic British sterling silver items bear official assay marks stamped into the casing, including the lion passant mark indicating silver purity, an assay town symbol, a date letter, and a registered makers mark.

Small silver pocket accessories can be displayed inside glass pocket watch domes, arranged on decorative trays on a desk, or mounted within framed shadow boxes among historical curiosities.

The exterior silver surfaces should be wiped gently with a soft lint-free silver cloth or mild silver polish, avoiding liquid cleaners entering the internal spring mechanisms or dulling the match strike plate.
