Quality Antiques and Vintage has dated this Sterling Silver Vesta Case to the Edwardian era.

The case bears Birmingham import hallmarks for 1904, making it a fascinating example of American silver craftsmanship imported into Britain during the Edwardian period.
Decorative Design – Cupid & Psyche

The front is beautifully decorated with a detailed classical scene depicting an elegant, partially draped young woman seated amongst flowing fabric and foliage.
She leans towards a small winged Cupid, who stands upon an ornamental pedestal holding his bow, apparently preparing to release an arrow.

The female figure reaches towards Cupid, seemingly assisting or guiding his aim.
The composition is suggestive of the classical mythology surrounding Cupid and Psyche, symbolising love, romance and affection.

The scene is framed by richly detailed Rococo Revival scrollwork, featuring elaborate scrolling foliage, architectural ornamentation and finely textured backgrounds.
The combination of polished, raised figures and intricately worked background decoration creates an impressive three-dimensional effect.

The reverse is comparatively plain and polished, displaying the British import hallmarks, while the interior bears the Gorham pattern number B1280.
The case retains its hinged lid and traditional ribbed match striker along the base.
Maker – Gorham Manufacturing Company
Founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1831, Gorham became one of America's most celebrated manufacturers of fine silverware.
The company was internationally recognised for its exceptional craftsmanship, producing high-quality decorative silver, tableware and personal accessories.
Gorham match safes are particularly sought after by collectors, especially examples featuring elaborate figural decoration and classical subjects.
This example is identified by its stamped B1280 pattern number, which provides a useful reference for collectors researching Gorham's decorative silver designs.
