This George V solid sterling silver combination vesta and sovereign case dates to 1916 and embodies the gentleman's library style of the period. The object is rendered in polished silver with a smooth, reflective finish, showing gentle surface wear consistent with age and use. Constructed in an oblong form with rounded edges and corners, it includes a hinged cover on the front accessing the sovereign storage compartment, a snap-opening lid on the end for matches, a match striker across the body, and a circular suspension ring attached to the top end. Measuring 8.5 cm high, 3 cm wide, and 1.5 cm deep, this pocket-sized antique functions as a decorative tabletop accessory or a collector's cabinet display piece in a modern home. The visual details comprise the metallic silver colour, the circular metal suspension ring, and the visible seams dividing the hinged compartments.

A combined vesta and sovereign case is a dual-purpose pocket container produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It features separate spring-loaded compartments designed to store friction matches (vestas) and gold sovereign coins securely.

These pocket items were primarily crafted from sterling silver, nickel silver, brass, or gold. The interior sovereign section usually contains steel springs to hold coins in place, while the base or side features a serrated metal area for striking matches.

Authentic pieces display official British hallmarks indicating the silver purity, assay office location, makers mark, and date letter corresponding to the reign of King George V (19101936). Internal spring mechanisms and wear around the suspension loop also assist in verification.

Small silver pocket items are frequently displayed within glass shadow boxes, presented on decorative trays alongside desk accessories, or arranged in curated cabinet curiosity collections.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and polish gently using a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish. Avoid immersing the item in liquids to prevent damage to internal metal springs.
