Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Globe Wernicke modular bookcase dates from the period between 1893 and 1900. Built from nicely figured oak in a golden brown colour, the piece comprises two glazed lift-up doors with metal knobs, metal side straps, a moulded plinth base, and a projecting cornice top. Both the cornice and the base carry the stamped "Wernicke" mark. The two-tier design allows the interlocking sections to be separated or stacked vertically as needed. Practical for modern living, this compact wooden cabinet suits a home study, library, or living room for storing books or displaying decorative items while keeping dust away through the glass covers.

FAQs

A Globe Wernicke bookcase is a modular sectional unit introduced in the late nineteenth century, characterised by stackable wooden tiers with up-and-over glazed doors.

These bookcases were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring glass front panels, brass knobs, and steel or iron side scissor mechanisms.

Authentic pieces generally feature labelled metal makers plates inside the back panels, interlocking wooden tongue-and-groove joints between tiers, and original lift-and-slide door mechanisms.

Modular bookcases serve effectively in home offices, alcoves, or hallways to house books, ceramics, or curated collectibles while maintaining dust protection behind glass doors.

Timber surfaces should be cleaned with a soft cloth and polished with high-grade beeswax, while glass panels should be wiped with a non-abrasive glass cleaner avoiding contact with wood finishes.
