Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This small late 19th-century Swedish bedside cabinet exemplifies Scandinavian country style. Constructed from pine, it has a painted blue finish with visible wear and distressing, revealing traces of underlying timber and age. The piece has a single cabinet door featuring a raised diamond panel moulding and a small brass drop handle on the left. Supported by slender square legs, the structure incorporates a shaped apron beneath the main body. Measuring 70 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, this rustic farmhouse table suits placement in an empty corner of a bedroom, hallway, or living space as a functional accent piece.

FAQs

Swedish painted furniture originated in the 18th and 19th centuries, influenced by Gustavian and French Neoclassical styles adapted for provincial homes. Pieces typically feature muted painted finishes in blue, grey, or white to reflect light during dark Scandinavian winters, complemented by subtle geometric carvings.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed using locally sourced softwoods such as pine or fir. The surfaces were painted using natural milk paint or tempera pigments, often paired with cast brass hardware or hand-forged iron fittings.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, natural shrinkage line gaps along wood panels, and layered paint wear consistent with age. Original surface finish often shows character distress around high-contact areas like handles and feet.

A painted Swedish cabinet works effectively as a contrasting accent piece in modern rooms. It can be paired alongside neutral linen bedding, contemporary table lamps, or used as a compact side table next to a sofa.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth without applying commercial polishes or abrasive cleaners. Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the timber from expanding or contracting.
